UK Mortgage Life Insurance brought to you by:

Do I have to survive for a minimum number of days in order to claim under Critical Illness Insurance?

  • Yes. Most Insurance Companies will state a survival period.

It is normal for Insurance Companies to state that you must live for at least 28 days following diagnosis of a critical illness before you can make a valid claim. If you die within 28 days you cannot claim.

However, if you have a policy which combines Life and Critical Illness Insurance, and you die within 28 days, you are still insured under the life cover provision of your policy. That’s why it’s wise to take out a combined Critical Illness and Life Insurance Policy as it can help to cover both eventualities.
